The Folding Fan ( Hiougi ) motif used in this fabric is the fan often used in a wedding kimono. A folding fan was a fan for a Princess using a multi layered ceremonial kimono, typical of a wedding ceremony.
Fabric: Vintage ivory kimono silk. It is an original piece due to the composition of the print and embossing in the final product.

The famous painting ‘The Great Wave’ by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai whom many designers pay homage to the iconic wave in their work. Its evident that inspiration has been taken from his work to design this fabric from Tokyo.

Kichijoji Honcho is a unique neighbourhhod in Tokyo that is home to creatives based in pockets of this suburb. This fabric design holds a striking resemblance to the area. “Masters of their work in their own space”. Great skill in each area focusing on different genres.
This fabric is a mix of different styles of dying the Kimono silk. Shobori in parts, but overall Yuzen which means it is an extensive process of hand dying the fabric in a step by step process. A true labour of love.

Kichijoji - i shows predominantly more pale pink Shibori than Kichijoji - ii.

Crane (Tsuru) is Japans bird of happiness! The belief is that this bird brings good fortune and longevity. The crane itself only has one mate for life, hence its use in Wedding kimonos. This fabric was part of a Spring Wedding Kimono.
The round motif used in this fabric and the main circle with the blossom pattern emphasis eternity with the wedding in mind. Snippets of other blossoms, peony roses and The colour combination of this fabric is stunning, coral pink with ivory, light grey, candy pink in highlighted areas of the fabric.

A fine arts piece! The intricate detailing in this piece of fabric is exceptional. The Yuzen method of hand dying the silk in layers and stages has been used for this piece. Additionally there is fine hand painting for detailing sections which have been showcased in gold.
Main colour is a cobalt blue with ivory, pale pink, grey with a burnt orange. Fine gold is used to outline detail of the art work.
The base silk fabric pattern, has geometric lines with a blossom motif. This adds another dimension to the abstract pattern in the forefront.

This vibrant , eye catching shiny kimono silk fabric is fresh, modern but with a traditional dying technique to keep it grounded. This fabric has undergone the dyeing layering process, and Shibori has been carried out in different colours which is very unique. Shobori is in orange, olive green and a rusty yellow which is highlighted by the ivory colour behind the detail.

‘Kiku’ Chrysanthemum. The flower symbolises longevity when used in a Kimono. It is an auspicious pattern for use in both a Kimono and Interiors.
This piece is really exquisite. The pattern in the silk of this fabric is a cubic diamond pattern with a plain lines (without detail) that runs horizontally through the fabric. The hand painted chrysanthemums, leaves and cherry blossoms are highlighted with fine gold brush strokes. The tones of Grey in the back ground give a back drop to ivory, aqua, fuchsia, royal blue and crimson.

The Ginkgo tree is associated with longevity. The tree is a symbol of strength, hope and peace for many in the east. In Japan it is worshipped as it can live for a thousand years. In fact 4 Ginkgo trees survived the blast at Hiroshima and are growing strong today!

Stunning Ivory Geometric silk fabric. The Trigonal planar geometric shape is modern yet it respects tradition. Each of the shapes in this fabrics holds it own pattern, some are raised whilst others are flat different in matt or lustrous finish.
This fabric was unused fabric used to make a Samurai Kamishimo.

‘Hana’ is Japanese for blossom. A seasonal celebration when everyone in Japan celebrates the change of season and flowering of the beautiful Cherry Blossom tree.
This fabric is from a Spring wedding Kimono .The other cushion made from this same stretch of fabric is called Crane in our collection. The round motif featured in this piece are of all things Spring. Blossoms, sprigs of trees, foliage. The coral colour used in this fabric give a fresh young pop of colour.
